LIHU‘E — A Hanalei man lost his probation and will serve out his sentence.
Robert Henry Villaros, 42, of Hanalei, was arrested Oct. 11 for substantial violations of probation. He pleaded guilty on Jul. 19, 2007, served six months before starting a five-year probation term, and had only one year to go.
County Deputy Prosecutor Wendel Crutchfield filed the state’s motion to revoke probation in September. The re-sentencing hearing was held Thursday before 5th Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Watanabe.
There were many charges posed to Villaros and there wasn’t much County Deputy Attorney Stephanie Sato could say in his defense. He has three felony convictions and admitted not complying with terms of his probation. One of those terms was that he would not consume alcohol, yet he was drinking heavily when arrested for a recent crime.
“What were you thinking? You brought your son with you,” Watanabe said to Villaros about the crime.
Watanabe sentenced Villaros to complete an open five-year term in prison. She said it would be up to the parole board to determine if he would serve the entire sentence behind bars.
Sato’s request for fines and court fees to be waived due to the extended prison sentence was approved.
“All you need to worry about now is doing good time,” Watanabe said.
