Malia Manuel, 18, from Wailua, carves up a wave last year at the O’Neill World Cup of Surfing. Manuel won two 6-star ASP surfing events in September and finished as a qualifier for the 2012 ASP Women’s World Tour. Manuel will be one of four rookies riding in the 2012 tour. The ASP Women’s World Tour is comprised of the top 17 women surfers in the world. The ASP Top 17 is made of the top 10 finishers from the tour the year before, the top 6 from the Women’s World Rankings and one wildcard winner. Manuel finished the 2011 ASP season as the No. 2 surfer in the Women’s World Rankings.
