Manuel Emproso Sr.
Manuel “Manny” John Emproso Sr. of Kapa‘a died Oct. 24, 2011, peacefully at home at age 74. Born in Lihu‘e on May 26, 1937, he was a manager for the State of Hawai‘i at Samuel Mahelona Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emidio and Balasa Emproso; brother, William Emproso, and sisters, Navis Quiming, Paulina Suan and Dora Banquel.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi Emproso, of Kapa‘a; daughters, Lisa Emproso of Kapa‘a; Jennifer (Leon Sr.) Penias of Kapa‘a; sons, Manuel “John” (Samentha Amor) Emproso Jr. of Kapa‘a and Jacob Emproso of Kapa‘a; adopted daughter, Mandy Emproso, of Kapa‘a; sister, Beatrice Ancheta of Kealia; brothers, Domingo (Lourdes) Alisna of Hanamaulu and Alejandro (Janis) Alesna of Moloa‘a; numerous nieces, nephews and 10 grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, at Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church, Kapa‘a. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Saint Catherine’s Cemetery.

Mary McGuigan
Mary Marcella Smith McGuigan died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Oct. 28, 2011, at age 79. Born Dec. 13, 1931, in Sumner, Iowa, the 14th of 18 children, she worked in the field of education for over 40 years as a teacher and counselor in Illinois, Florida and Hawai‘i where she retired in June 1998. She came to Hawai‘i in June 1981 with her husband, John.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and 10 brothers.
She is survived by her husband, John McGuigan.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, Nov. 13, at Breath of Life with visitation from 12:30 p.m. and services celebrated at 1 p.m.

Leslie Degen
Leslie “Les” Phillip Degen of Kapa‘a died at home on Oct. 27, 2011, at age 72. Born March 6, 1939, in San Francisco, Calif., he was the owner/proprietor of Les Degen Equipment Rentals. He was a 30-year resident and loved Kaua‘i.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Degen; sons, Marlin Degen, Leslie Degen Jr., both of California, Andrew Degen of Kaua‘i; brother, Arthur Degen of California; sisters, Dayna Newcomer of Nevada, Frances Henry of New Mexico; and two grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, at 4691 Hokualele Road, Anahola Farm Lots. Donations may be made in memory of Leslie Degen to Kaua‘i Hospice, 4457 Pahe‘e St., Lihu‘e, HI 96766.

Tsutomu Higa
Tsutomu “Tommy” Higa of Kapa‘a died at Garden Isle Health Care on Oct. 29, 2011, at age 80. Born in Kapa‘a on Aug. 8, 1931, he was a Korean War veteran and retired as an electronic technician with TRW Space & Defense Sector.
He is survived by four brothers, Shigeo (Katherine) Higa of Honolulu, Toshio (Jeane) Higa of Honolulu, Richard (Jane) Higa of California, Kenneth (Amy) Higa of California; two sisters, Fusako Tamashiro of Kapa‘a, Kimiye Koide of Hanama‘ulu; sister-in-law, Dorothy Higa of California; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery Pavilion with visitation from 10 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m. Inurnment to follow. Casual attire suggested and family graciously declines flowers.

Gregoria Caberto
Gregoria “Gloria” Caberto of Kapa‘a died on Nov. 3, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 84. Born March 11, 1927, on Kaua‘i, she was a dedicated homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan “Carlos” Caberto; parents Martin Villatora and Hertrudis Nadarisay; step-father, Cecilio Nadarisay; brothers, Raymond “Ray” Villatora and Victoriano “Vic” Villatora.
She is survived by six sons, John (Sue) Caberto of Lihu‘e, Ronald (Loreen) Caberto of Kilauea, Anthony Caberto, Leroy Caberto of Kapahi, Carl “Kaly” (Holly) Caberto of Wailua Homesteads, Jerry Caberto of Kapahi; daughter-in-law, Charlette Souza of ‘Oma‘o; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Diane Vierra of O‘ahu, Florencia “Dor” Alviar of Puhi, Julie “Jaye” Lopes of Makaweli, Dolores “Dolly” Alimboyoguen of California, Mercedes “Mercie” Inez of Kekaha; brothers, Benjamin “Benny” Villatora of Puhi, Bernardo “Dong” Nadarisay of Lihu‘e, Antonio “Tony” Nadarisay of Kapa‘a, Frank “Frankie” Nadarisay of Puhi; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and great friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens. Family requests casual attire.

Haruko Izumi
Haruko Izumi of Hanapepe died on Oct. 24, 2011, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at age 96. She was born on April 22, 1915, in Waimea, Kaua‘i.
She is survived by daughters, Kay Hill of Hanapepe; Jean Nishida (Paul) of Kula, Maui; Karen Naud (Dave) of Kaaawa; Blanche Suga (Daniel) of Hanapepe and Cynthia Izumi of Honolulu; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were private.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Glenn Hadama
Glenn Hadama of Lihu‘e died on Oct. 16, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 64. Born Dec. 18, 1946, in Lihu‘e, he was a retired library tech with the State of Hawai‘i.
He is survived by his brother, Dennis (Gail) Hadama of O‘ahu; sisters, Kathleen (Brian) Takenaga of California, Lauretta Hadama and Lisa Kiuchi, both of Kaua‘i.
Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Lihu‘e Hongwanji Church; service at 2 p.m. Casual attire is suggested
