Leslie Degen
Leslie “Les” Phillip Degen of Kapa‘a died at home on Oct. 27, 2011, at age 72. Born March 6, 1939, in San Francisco, Calif., he was the owner/proprietor of Les Degen Equipment Rentals. He was a 30-year resident and loved Kaua‘i.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Degen; sons, Marlin Degen, Leslie Degen Jr., both of California, Andrew Degen of Kaua‘i; brother, Arthur Degen of California; sisters, Dayna Newcomer of Nevada, Frances Henry of New Mexico; and two grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 4691 Hokualele Road, Anahola Farm Lots. Donations may be made in memory of Leslie Degen to Kaua‘i Hospice, 4457 Pahe‘e St., Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Margaret Masuda
Margaret Tsurue Masuda of ‘Ele‘ele, Kaua‘i, died on Oct. 26, 2011, at home at the age of 82. Born on June 9, 1929, in Wahiawa, Kaua‘i, she was the owner of Kuni’s Service Station in Hanapepe.
She is survived by her son, Daryl K. (Avis) Masuda of Hilo, Hawai‘i; daughter, Sharilyn C. Masuda (Layne Matsushita) of Hilo; two grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth K. Kunisaki of Honolulu, Stanley T. Kunisaki of Kalaheo and John T. Kunisaki of Honolulu.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Kaua‘i Soto Zenshuji Temple in Hanapepe. Service at 5 p.m. Family request no koden, casual attire and that flowers are omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
