HANAKAPI‘AI — A 55-year-old male visitor from Diamond Bar, Calif. escaped injury after falling 30 feet off the Hanakapi‘ai Trail Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 3 p.m., Station 1 responded to the call indicating that a hiker fell about one-half mile in from the Ke‘e hiking trail entrance and was stopped by a tree, a county news release states.
Engine 1 and Truck 1 responded by hiking up the trail and locating the hiker.
Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 flew to the location where the hiker was found and was notified by Engine 1 personnel that the hiker was not injured but fell into a tree. Rescue 3 personnel were lowered to the hiker and assisted in his rescue.
The hiker was brought back onto the trail and walked out with Engine 1 personnel.
