The Kaua‘i High School girls and the Waimea High School boys finished ninth and 13th respectively at the Honolulu Marathon Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state meet, Saturday on Maui.
Krista Schnackenberg, finishing 26th overall team at 21:58.3, led the Kaua‘i girls team who posted a 229 team total.
Other runners for the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation girls team include Heidi Herr (22:09.5), Ashley Schnackenberg (23:14.8), Nanea Babila (23:17.0) and Hayley Walcher (24:22.7), .4 second behind Skye Ombac of Waiakea (24:22.3).
Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy, posting a team total of 35 points, earned the girls team title.
Waimea boys were led by Jordan Kamakea (20:37.5), crossing the line 77th in the team overall followed by Mikey Rita (20:55.9), Travis Soares (21:37.8), Hazzard McDougall (22:01.0) and Byron Freitas (22:03.0).
The Menehune men posted a 402 team total.
Leilehua, led by Elliot Estrada, finishing second overall at a blistering 16:54.5, posted a team total of 55 points to win the boys title.
Troy Esaki of Iolani was the top male individualist, crossing on a 16:29.0 run.
Joshua Herr, a Kaua‘i boys runner who finished first during the KIF championship, continued his climb, finishing 21st overall as the first KIF individualist with a 17:40.3 run over the three-mile course.
Joshua’s sub-18 run was joined by Island School’s Ryan Perez who crossed 32nd overall on a 17:59.6 run, another sub-18 performance for the KIF runners.
Austin Reimer of Kapa‘a was the third KIF individualist, crossing on a 19:54.5 in 134th place.
Joy Claypoole of Island School, the top KIF individualist, finished 14th overall on a 20:48.0 run, just a step ahead of Kari Van Mols of Kealakehe who stopped the clock at 20:48.7.
Cassie Wilson of Kapa‘a High School, crossed 37th overall on a 22:16.0 run and Kaycee San Agustin-Nordmeier of Waimea High School crossed 39th on a 22:19.5 run.
