Glenn Hontz and Kaua‘i Community College are asking for the community’s financial support for the Kaua‘i Food Consortium Project.
The project is focused on increasing local food production and distribution to develop food self-sufficiency for Kaua‘i. KCC is seeking federal grants to achieve this goal. Matching funds are required for these grants. If the project cannot raise the matching funds, it will not qualify.
The Consortium Project is sponsored by Kaua‘i Community College in cooperation with several home gardeners, community gardeners, commercial farms and other organizations from Kaua‘i’s agricultural and farming community. Together, they are developing grant proposals to submit to U.S. Department of Agriculture requesting funds to train new farmers and increase food production and distribution to the island’s communities. These grant proposals must be submitted by mid-November, but the consortium is striving to complete the draft proposals by the end of October.
