LIHU‘E — The Ocean Safety Bureau is now accepting applications for on-call lifeguards, a county news release states.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and have a valid driver’s license and a high school diploma or a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
In addition, applicants must meet health and physical condition standards deemed necessary for an on-call lifeguard, as well as pass a physical agility test scheduled on Nov. 16. No make-up tests will be allowed for vacation, illness or personal business, the release states.
Eligible candidates will be notified approximately a week prior to the physical agility test.
The pay rate for the on-call lifeguard position is $12 per hour.

The deadline to turn in applications and all supporting documents is Wednesday, Nov. 2.
The duties of an on-call lifeguard include: patrol beach at an assigned tower to protect life; prevent accidents; enforce safety regulations; assist people in distress; as well as perform all other related duties.
In addition, on-call lifeguards must be able to work weekends and holidays.
