LIHU‘E — Today’s football game between Waimea and Kapa‘a will be played at Vidinha Stadium, a release from the KIF states.
The Kapa‘a homecoming game was originally slated to be played at the Warrior’s home field at Kapa‘a New Town Park.
This is the second Kapa‘a home game in a row that has been changed due to the field conditions at the Kapa‘a field.
“The venue change … will enable the County of Kaua‘i and the Parks and Recreation Department time to redress the field and complete some of the amenities related to the sport complex,” the release states.
Today’s game, which kicks off at 3 p.m. has a chance to crown a new KIF champion.
The Menehune are 4-1 in KIF play and a win will clinch the first title for Waimea in nine seasons.
The Warriors, whose record sits at 2-1 in KIF play, must win to keep their chances alive.
A Kapa‘a win against Waimea would set up two meetings with the Kaua‘i Red Raiders.
The two teams play their regular season finales next Saturday and then would meet again to complete the fourth quarter of the game that was suspended in September due to darkness. The resumed game would begin at the start of the fourth quarter with Kapa‘a leading Kaua‘i, 7-6.
The Warriors would have to win one of those two games to set up a one-game playoff against the Menehune for the KIF title.
If Kapa‘a wins out and downs Waimea and Kaua‘i twice, the Warriors will be the outright KIF winners.
