Just shy of two months since opening, a little coffee shop in the heart of Lihu‘e Town is already one of the island’s best-kept secrets.
The County Council has been advocating for a walking community in the island’s largest commercial hub, but until recently a good cup of Joe — essential to boost work performance — required a short drive to Kukui Grove Center.
Since August, when Plantation Coffee opened, world-class gourmet and specialty coffees are walking distance for Lihu‘e workers, tucked behind First Hawaiian Bank and the Lihu‘e Post Office.
Barista Sheena Millares may know her coffee, but this Kaua‘i High School graduate is also pretty good with fruits. Try her “All-Fruit Smoothie” and it might convince you to replace a couple cups of coffee a week with something slightly healthier.
The sweet Sheena is a single mother who loves her children. Unfortunately, she got into some trouble with the law a few years ago, but since then has turned her life around, leading an exemplary life. Her friends say she is perfect example of a success story.
Born and raised on Kaua‘i, Sheena loves to go to the beach, and despite a busy schedule between two jobs, always manages to jump in the ocean every few days.
Plantation Coffee is open Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The staff will treat you like family. Beside some of the best coffee on Kaua‘i and sweetest smoothies, they serve yummy sandwiches, salads, pastries and a hummus to die for. Did I mention they also have a breakfast menu?
