Nahele Hoku Marie Kapua of Hanamaulu died on Sept. 11, 2011, at the age of 16. She was born on Kaua‘i on March 28, 1995, and attended Kaua‘i High School.
She will be dearly missed by her parents, Irvil and Karen Kapua; brothers, Pohaku, Nalu and Makani; half brother, Irvil Kapua Jr. of Las Vegas; half sister, Roxanne Kehau (Arcenio) Racpan of the Big Island; maternal grandparents, Samuel and June Leialoha of O‘ahu; hanai brother, Justin Kanoho; hanai sisters, Kapua Chandler and Megan Vento, numerous, aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends and family are welcomed to her home on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, from 10 a.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Norman Nagao
Norman “Bobo” Nagao of Kapa‘a died Sept. 3, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 72. Born Jan. 18, 1939, in Waipouli, Kaua‘i, he was a supervisor for the State of Hawai‘i Highways Division.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Yoshio Nagao and Hisayo Ebesu Nagao.
He is survived by his companion, Cherie Hyde; sisters, Lorraine Oishi, Jane Rabot, Gladys Iha, Nancy (Allan) Nonaka and Afton Camat; numerous nieces, nephews, aunties and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Visitation is at 9 a.m. with service at 10 a.m. Family suggest casual attire and a private scattering.
Arrangements are made by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Koloa.
Karen Arashiro
Karen Arashiro of Wailua Houselots died on Aug. 30, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 61. She was born on April 9, 1950, in Lihu‘e. She was a culinary arts instructor at Kaua‘i Community College and former co-owner of Kenny’s Restaurant.
She is preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Arashiro.
She is survived by her mother, Tomeyo Arashiro of Wailua Houselots and numerous cousins.
Services were private.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Isami Oshiro
Isami Oshiro of Hanama‘ulu died Aug. 30, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 95. Born May 28, 1916, he was a tire repairman with Lihu‘e Plantation.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kiyoko Muraoka; parents, Makaro and Kama Oshiro; and sisters, Chiyoko Tokuda and Kathleen Glauner.
He is survived by his sons, Dean (Marge) Oshiro of Honolulu and Ryan (Jan) Oshiro of Wailua Homesteads; brothers, Gene (Yuriko) Oshiro and Soei Oshiro, both of Hanama‘ulu; sisters, Marian Ikehara of Kapa‘a and Florence Meadors of Oklahoma; nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, at Kapa‘a Jodo Mission; service will be held at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Lawrence Miller
Lawrence “Larry” Miller of Omao, Kaua‘i, died on Aug. 16, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 66. He was born on Nov. 22, 1944, in Redondo Beach, Calif. He was a self-employed auto mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marie Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Jeri Miller of Omao, Kaua‘i; sons, Beau (Thao) Miller, of Honolulu; Guy Miller of Omao, Kaua‘i; sisters, Linda (Craig) Christensen of Carmel, Calif., and Lisa (Rick) Saria of Arcata, Calif., and two grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Sept. 25, 2011, at 2 p.m. in Po‘ipu at Prince Kuhio Park. A paddle out will follow. Family requests that any donations in Larry’s memory be made to Surfrider Foundation of Kaua‘i or Malama Maha‘ulepu or Hale O‘pio.
Jose Batangan
Jose Dumayas Batangan of ‘Ele‘ele, Kaua‘i died on Aug. 20, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 62. He was born on May 3, 1949, in BRGY 5 San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte Philippines. He was a field technician for Syngenta.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Benita Batangan and son, Marlon Batangan.
He is survived by his wife, Magdalena Batangan of ‘Ele‘ele; sons, Walter (Hazeline) Batangan of ‘Ele‘ele and Emerson (Karez) Batangan of ‘Ele‘ele; sisters, Apolonia (Stanley Oshima) Ramelb of ‘Ele‘ele and Potenciana (Monico) Paguirigan of the Philippines and 2 grandchildren; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with service to follow at 7 p.m. Also on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo, visitation is at 9 a.m. and mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.

Anne Isonaga
Anne Hamae Isonaga of Koloa died on Sept. 2, 2011, at her home at the age of 83. Born on Sept. 19, 1927, in Koloa, she was a social worker for the County of Kaua‘i and a tour guide with Robert’s Hawai‘i.
She is survived by her sister, Chito Isonaga of Koloa; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at 4 p.m. at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel. Casual attire is suggested.
