KAPA‘A — The Kapa‘a transfer station has resumed normal operations following a minor fire that occurred yesterday morning.
The Kaua‘i Fire Department responded to a call after an employee noticed smoke coming from one of the refuse trailers when he arrived to work. With the help of firefighters, they detached the trailer from the refuse hopper and extinguished the fire.
Officials believe the fire may have been started by undetected smoldering materials that were deposited in the trailer. Damage to the equipment was relatively minor and the equipment repairs were completed by 2:30 p.m.
Loose mixed waste was not accepted the remainder of the day but is now open for operations. For more information, please call the Solid Waste Division at 241-4837.
