Kaua‘i Alarm Clock

I first came to Kaua‘i 25 years ago and immediately fell in love with the beauty of the island and aloha spirit of its people. I didn’t, however, fall in love with the chickens. Their intrusive cock-a-doodle-doos at all hours interrupted many a night’s sleep. After subsequent trips, I began to build up a “tolerance” to their plaintive nighttime calls. Four years ago I moved here permanently. I discarded most everything I had, arriving with not much more than a suitcase. History told me that I really didn’t need an alarm clock, but I did need something to tell time. So I bought this “silent” alarm clock. I liked it because it paid homage, in a humorous way, to Kaua‘i’s ubiquitous wake-up service. Now when friends visit, they’ll often get one as a “going-away” present — a little reminder of their visit to Kaua‘i.
