The Kaua‘i Amateur Radio Club will be presenting an FCC-sanctioned study session and license exam for persons wanting to obtain or upgrade their Amateur Radio license on Oct. 1, a news release states. The registration deadline is noon, Sept. 17.
The exam is offered under the auspices of the American Radio Relay League and will be held at the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative conference room, 4463 Pahe‘e St. in Lihu‘e, the release states. Applicants may obtain their Technician class license, or upgrade to General or Extra class.
Study session begins at 8 a.m.; this consists of a review of the question pool for the class of license being applied for, with an experienced Extra class proctor available for assistance. The exam begins at 3:30 p.m.
Cost for study materials for the Technician or General class is $9 (call for assistance regarding study material for Extra class). The test fee is $15 (set by the FCC).
Fees are payable in cash only; please have the correct amount, the release states.
Morse Code is no longer a requirement for licensing.
If you only want to take the exam, you should arrive at the location no later than 3 p.m.
You must present two forms of ID, one of which must be a photo ID. Bring both a pencil/eraser and a pen (black ink only), the release states.
