HANAKAPI‘AI — A Massachusetts man was rescued near Hanakapi‘ai Falls after injuring his shoulder Monday afternoon, county officials said in a news release Tuesday.

The 31-year-old male had been hiking about 100 yards below the falls when he dislocated his shoulder and called for assistance at about 4:55 p.m., the release states.

Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 flew to a nearby landing zone in the valley, and escorted the victim onboard.

He was then flown to Princeville Airport where awaiting medics transported him to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.
