Teruko Ballinger
Teruko Anne (Oka) Ballinger of Scituate died Aug. 12, 2011, at South Shore Hospital in So. Weymouth, Mass., at age 87. Born and raised on Kaua‘i, she was the wife of Donald Kenneth Ballinger (deceased).
She was the mother of David A. Ballinger, married to Wendy, and Ruth A. Ballinger, married to Richard Duffy. She was the grandmother of Sarah and Katherine Ballinger of Scituate, Mass., and WenLu Duffy of Maui. She is also survived by two sisters, Satchi (Oka) Mason and Tomoe Oka, both of Colorado; brother Clifton Oka of California; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of the National College of Education in Evanston, Ill., where she was named to Who’s Who in American Students 1950-51. She received her teaching certificate in Hawai‘i shortly after completing college and taught both kindergarten and first grade on Maui.
She and Don traveled extensively for his work, living in the Philippines, Mauritius, Zambia, Indonesia and Nigeria before settling in Scituate after Don’s retirement. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter and enjoyed friends, church, and her community.
Services will be private, and arranged by Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, Scituate, Mass. Seikichi Ikehara
Seikichi Ikehara of Hanapepe died on Aug. 8, 2011 at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 91. Born on April 27, 1920 in Waimea, he was an employee at American Factory, a cook with Sunrise Café and a landscaper at Po‘ipu Hotel.
He was preceded in death by his son, Denis Ikehara; daughter, Sally Adolfo; sisters, Florence Ishii and Tsuyuko “Patsy” Peleras; half brother, Seiyei Ikehara; brothers-in-law, German Peleras and Ray Moreira.
He is survived by sons, Sidney S. Ikehara and Clinton S. Ikehara, both of Hanapepe; daughter, Sally Adolfo; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Seiichi (Aiko) Ikehara of Waipahu; sister, Beatrice Moreira of Honolulu; nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe on Friday, Aug. 26, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Mary Verdusco
Mary Theresia Verdusco of Po‘ipu died on June 3, 2011, at age 73. She was born on Dec. 13, 1938, in Miami Beach, Fla., to the late Leo and Mary K. Heyn. She was a homemaker, loved to travel, shop and decorate. She was married to the late David Michael Verdusco of San Diego, Calif., in 1957.
She is survived by her brother, Michael (Suvira) Heyn of Oregon; his three children, Tanya, Natasha and Kavita Heyn; her four children, Catherine Peter of Wailua, Michelle Davis of San Diego, Calif., Damione Verdusco of Lihu‘e and Mary Kojiri of Koloa; five grandchildren, Keahi Verdusco, Nakana Duarte, Tiana Kojiri, Sonoi Kawakami, Chance Kawakami; and one great-grandchild, Waiehu Keoho.
A gathering of family and friends and a celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, Aug. 28, at Kukui‘ula Harbor in Po‘ipu from 1 to 4 p.m. A scattering of ashes will follow at 1:30 p.m. in front of Po‘ipu Kapili.
Ultimate Cremations in Honolulu assisted the funeral arrangements.
