Zumba event to honor kumu hula

The public is invited when the Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club and the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort and Beach Club will sponsor “The Experience,” a morning of Zumba fitness, Saturday at the Kaua‘i Marriott in Nawiliwili.

Troy Allen Lazaro, the Food and Beverage Manager of the Waiohai, and Christina Gabriel, the Waiohai general manager, are spearheading this morning of Zumba to benefit Na Kane O Keoneloa in honor of the halau’s kumu, Charles Ka‘upu who passed away several weeks ago.

Na Kane O Keoneloa was featured during the pre-parade protocol during the recent Koloa Plantation Days Parade where the halau paid tribute to Ka‘upu.

Tina Simpson, Lazaro and Anna Velasco, part of the Ho‘ola Lahui Fitness Center are donating their time to lead the Zumba experience and Steve Yannarell, the Kaua‘i Marriott general manager, will be donating the use of the Kaua‘i Ballroom.

Registration is a $30 donation payable during registration which takes place from 8:15 to 9 a.m.

Doors open at 8:50 a.m. with Zumba on tap from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Each instructor will lead for an hour with a short break between sessions.
