Moped crash injures teen

LIHU‘E — A teen visiting from Texas was hospitalized Friday afternoon after crashing the moped she was riding near the Lihu‘e Industrial Complex.

The 19-year-old Groves woman was turning left out of National Rental Car onto Haoa when she lost control of the moped and hit a curb, a county spokesperson said in an email Saturday. The incident occurred at approximately 3:50 p.m.

She sustained minor abrasions to her face and shoulder area. Medics transported her to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for treatment.

There was some minor damage reported to the right side of the moped. No other vehicles were involved. There was no damage to property.

Traffic was reportedly backed up while emergency crews responded to the scene.
