Kaua‘i’s own Kauluwehiokekai Oliver was chosen ‘Best of the Best’ Tahitian Solo Dancer at the 12th annual Te Mahana Hiro’a Tahiti (Tahitian Dance Festival), held by the Polynesian Cultural Center in La‘ie, O‘ahu, July 1 and 2. The competition opened with the Invitational Division in which ‘Wehi’ competed against the ‘world’s most talented dancers’, according to the Center. The judges rated the dancers on the skill, grace and speed. Many attendees recognized the unique ‘Kaua‘i style’ Wehi has learned so well from her sister, 27-time first-place Tahitian Solo competition winner, choreographer and director, Mi Nei Oliver. Wehi’s clean, simple grace, combined with her strength, speed, and knowledge of the steps made her
a standout for Kaua‘i.
