Teen dies in motorcycle accident

KILAUEA — A teenager was killed in a motorcycle accident on Kauapea Road in Kilauea Friday evening, states a county press release.

The accident was reported at 9:42 p.m. and involved a 23-year-old driver of a Suzuki motorcycle and his 17-year-old passenger, Vivian Arnett, of Kilauea.

The motorcycle was traveling eastbound when it apparently struck a mailbox in the vicinity of 2840 Kauapea Road, according to the release.

The driver and passenger were transported to Wilcox Hospital, where the minor was pronounced dead.

Kauapea Road was closed for two-and-a-half hours while Kaua‘i Police Department conducted its investigation.

The driver is being treated for injuries at Wilcox Hospital. His current condition is unknown. Police are investigating  the cause of the accident.
