Congratulations to coach Kirk Correa and the Kawaihau Big League All-Stars on the state championship!

Weston Moniz is on the roster as a Kawaihau Big but couldn’t make the trip to Hilo because of his work schedule. He settled for helping Wilson Moniz work with the Kawaihau Majors All-Stars who leave Thursday for their District 1 tournament in Kaneohe, O‘ahu.

Congratulations to Bart de Zwart, too, on his “incredible crossing,” paddling from the Big Island to Kaua‘i on a stand-up paddleboard. That congratulations should be shared with his wife, Dagmar, who dogged all the loose land ends to make sure Bart got the welcome he deserved following the 300-mile paddle.

Mahalo to Donovan Pegeder and his ‘ohana for the fabulous Aunty Alice Arruda malasadas at the Grove Farm Swap Meet, Saturday. The crew said they made 50 pounds which worked out perfectly for the time frame.

Lorna Santos said she’s taking applications for vendors for the July 17 Lawa‘i Cannery garage sale which benefits the Kaua‘i Special Olympics. Stel Pimental (she was at bon dance, Friday) said she’ll be at that event, but no marshmallow guns. Call Lorna at 332-5929 for space.
