The Kawaihau Big League All-Stars with players between 16 to 18 years old will be representing the Little League District 1 at the state tournament, Friday through June 28 at Wong’s Stadium in Hilo on the Big Island.
The Kawaihau Bigs took the best two-of-three District 1 series against the Kahalu‘u All-Stars to advance to the state tournament.
Kawaihau won the first game, 13–6 behind the pitching of Mikeo Rita who gave up four earned runs on five hits.
Taren Tani got the save in relief.
Dallas Correa added two hits including a three-run homerun, while Rita helped himself with two hits in the win. Chyson Soares, Shylen Keuma, Bronson Aiwohi, Kellen Aquino and Tani each had hits.
In game two, a grandslam and double from Correa wasn’t enough as Kawaihau dropped the match 15-11 as its pitching faltered.
Kawaihau rotated through five hurlers who combined to give up 12 hits in the loss.
Kaimana Perreira-Alquiza finished with two hits.
Rita, Keuma, Dalton Christy, Aiwohi and Jordon Kamakea each added a hit, with Rita whacking a double.
The Kawaihau bats came alive in the deciding game with 17 hits in its 16–5 win to advance to the state games.
Kamakea hit two homeruns and a double to set the pace while Rita, Soares and Tani each doubled in their two hits apiece.
Keuma picked up the complete-game win on the hill, giving up seven hits in the match which was called in the 5th inning due to the 10-run ruling.
Aiwohi, Aquino, Christy, Correa, Kalen Iwai, Kamakea, Keuma, Weston Moniz, Perreira-Alquiza, Rita, Chyson Soares, Travis Soares, Bryson Tacata and Tani make up the team coached by Teddy Perreira, Kirk Correa, Guy Ishihara, Bryan Aiwohi and Nick Alquiza.
