PUHI — While you may not recognize the name Clarence Greenwater, most likely you’ve heard him sing.
Greenwater, aka Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Citizen Cope, has had his music featured in an endless amount of television shows, movies and television commercials.
His carefully crafted tracks blends hip-hop beats, piano harmony and bluesy guitar to churn out tunes that provide easy listening.
Greenwater, who has been vacationing in Kaua‘i, will perform an acoustic, solo show 7 p.m. Saturday at Kaua‘i Community College.
“I’ll be performing songs from all my records,” he said. “It’s going to be an intimate performance.”
For the last 16 months, Greenwater has toured in support of his 2010 release “The RainWater LP.”
“It’s been going great, everything has been real positive,” Greenwater said of his tour.
Since his debut in 2002, Greenwater has released four albums. His collaboration with Carlos Santana resulted in the single “Sideways,” which was featured on the album “Shaman.”
“I started writing poetry, and I always loved listening to music,” Greenwater said about his start as a musician.
Greenwater uses his personal experiences and opinions to fuel his songwriting, often tackling serious subjects. He gets his point across using a modest approach and captivating listeners with his laid-back style.
When asked about his favorite tracks, Greenwater was diplomatic, saying he loves them all.
After Greenwater wraps up his Kaua‘i vacation, he plans to play theater shows on the East Coast.
“I’m going to do a little writing and relaxing and play a few spot dates this summer,” Greenwater said. “I’m going to be touring much this year.”
So what does Greenwater have in store?
“I’m working on a record. I’ve written some songs.”
Among those songs he’s written includes a track that will be included in the film “Battleship,” which is scheduled to be released in 2012. Greenwater also has a small cameo in the film.
“I always love to play here,” said Greenwater. “I’m always surprised to see how many people come to my shows (in Hawai‘i). It’s great.”
