It’s a Friday night, and you had a long week of work, school or just being a parent. You are feeling a need to retreat, but this timeyou want a low-key gathering. So you first text your friends, “You down?” Of course they are, but then the question always emerges and they ask “where are we going?” Well, since Kaua‘i is small, and you have to get creative every week, I decided to check out my favorite spot. Known for an excellent wine selection and kicked-back environment, KP Lounge made me fall in love with food all over again.
As you roll in, you can sit at the bar, tables, lounge sitting areas, or their high tables with chairs; it all depends on your mood. As you sit down, you may watch some sports or listen to some jazzy music. As soon as you get situated, you are greeted with a charismatic waitress and menus. Take a look at their specialty menu; it will make your mouth watery as you read it. Last Friday, I decided to start with the French Artichoke dip, green beans with bacon and my friend ordered the stuffed portabella mushroom ravioli that was also found on the appetizer menu. I sure wanted to feel special, so I ordered my main dish from their house specialty menu. Of course, my top pick of the night was homemade pasta with grilled shrimp, tomatoes and fresh basil.
If you order wine, they bring that and your choice of appetizer to you first. So now, just kick back, listen to the overhead music and relax. This is a great time to catch up with friends or make new memories of laughter and fun. Laughter, love and food goes a long way these days. When you have all three, it’s like you’re gassed up on unstoppable energy which gets you properly prepared for anything. Every superwoman and superman needs to rejuvenate here and there, so why not do it at KP lounge, where their food is genuinely made with love.
My mom always said, “A way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” I think it’s time for some modifications on that cliché, so I say “The way to a strong soul’s energy is through their choice of fuel.” My friend and I began our fuel lift with the green beans and bacon. It tasted like it was sautéed in olive oil and garlic. At first we were looking for the salt, then it dawned on us to eat it with the bacon. “Genius,” we thought. The clean, crisp green beans got their salt from the bacon, which felt so organic. I know nothing about culinary, just that KP lounge made dishes that were simply at their best and not over-seasoned. After that, we tried the portabella mushroom ravioli that were simply to die for. For an appetizer, it felt like a specialty order. It has a special sauce on top of pesto sauce which made me feel like I was in an upscale culinary restaurant in Manhattan, NY.
Who needs a live band there, when the food sings to your soul, the staff brings you smiles and fast service and the environment takes you away from your daily stresses or dramas. So emerge from your daily routine and head down to KP Lounge next to Kapa‘a’s Kaua‘i Pasta. They open Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., so check out their culinary skills for yourself, but bring your shades because KP Lounge is truly shining.
