Applications being accepted for seasonal lifeguards
The Ocean Safety Bureau is accepting applications between May 16 and May 27 for seasonal/on-call lifeguards.
Applications are available at any county lifeguard tower or at the Kaua‘i Fire Department headquarters located in the Hale Pumehana Building, 3083 Akahi Street, ste. 101. Applications can also be downloaded from the county website, www.kauai.gov, starting May 16. Completed applications will only be accepted at the Kaua‘i Fire Department headquarters.
The duties of a seasonal/on-call lifeguard include: patrol beach at an assigned tower, protect life, prevent accidents, enforce safety regulations and assist people in distress. Other related duties may also be required.
The pay rate is $12 per hour.
Plantation Gardens to host Green Drinks mixer
Green Drinks Kaua’i will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 18 at Plantation Gardens in Po‘ipu. The public is invited to join event sponsors Element Media and Pacific Panel Cleaners, along with partners Po‘ipu Beach Resort Association, Zero Waste Kaua’i, Malama Pono-Paradise Ride Kaua‘i and the Kaua’i Chamber of Commerce for an evening of drinks and pupus in an effort to unify the island’s environmentally conscience business community.

County engineer to speak at LBA meeting
County Engineer Larry Dill will be the guest speaker at Lihu‘e Business Association’s next monthly meeting.
As head of Kaua‘i’s Department of Public Works, Dill’s responsibilities include county buildings, roads, landfill, garbage and refuse. With the completion of this year’s budget process, he will discuss the department’s upcoming Capital Improvement Projects and their payoffs for Kaua’i.
The LBA meeting is free and open to the public. It will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on May 26 at Duke’s Canoe Club at Kalapaki Beach. Contact LBA President Pat Griffin for additional information at 639-1019 or patgriffin@hawaiiantel.net.
Pesticides and pollinators don’t mix
The Wailua-Kapa‘a Neighborhood Association will feature guest speakers Jimmy Trujillo, beekeeper, and Caren Diamond, organic gardener, discussing “Pesticides and Pollinators Don’t Mix” at 2 p.m. on May 28 at the Kapa‘a Library meeting room. The event is free and open to the public.
