OZone picked up its fifth win to lock up the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Pete Peterson Memorial Rum Series, Thursday.
Starting out under 10-knot winds, weather conditions deteriorated to almost no wind at the finish, and OZone was able to stay ahead of the five-boat fleet to cross on an elapsed sail of 1:05:10, correcting to 1:05:16 PHRF for the first-place finish.
With that win, OZone finishes the seven-race series with five firsts and one second place for seven points.
Fast Company, finishing second on a 1:07:22 elapsed sail and correcting to 1:07:28 PHRF, finished second in the standings with one first place, four second places and a third place for 12 points.
Speedy, always in the mix throughout the series, filled in the third spot on a 1:11:35 elapsed sail and corrected to 1:11:42 PHRF, finishing the series in third with 20 points, just two points ahead of Malihini, the 35-foot catamaran, who in Thursday’s race, posted a Did Not Finish.
Coyote, the C&C 38, crossed the line fourth overall with a 1:30:09 elapsed sail and corrected to 1:24:26 PHRF. She also corrected to 1:13:15 Club for top honors in that class. Overall, Coyote ended the series in seventh place with 36 points.
Bonjolea, the X-342, filled in the final spot of Thursday’s race with a 1:29:39 elapsed sail and corrected to 1:26:12 PHRF. She also corrected to 1:14:54 Club for second place in that class, Thursday, but finished tops in the Club class overall with 18 points over Coyote (27 points) and Malihini (29 points).
Overall, Bonjolea ended with 29 points for fifth place in the standings, followed by Papa‘au, who did not compete, with 32 points, Coyote and Windspan with 44 points.
Next on the NYC calendar is the Memorial Weekend race to Hanalei and extending to Around-the-Island race. The ships leave Nawiliwili Saturday and return Monday afternoon.
The public is invited to view the shoreline series when the Junior Series inaugurates on June 2 for four races.
Each competing boat must have a junior member aged from 8 to 18 years old aboard in order to score without penalty.
