LIHU‘E — A man believed to have caused a hit-and-run crash last month turned himself into the Lihu‘e Police Cellblock on May 3.
Kaua‘i police arrested 44-year-old Gerald Ito on charges of driving without a license and accidents involving bodily injury. He was released with a pending court date, a county spokesperson said Monday.
Police contend that Ito fled the scene of a crash after causing a major traffic collision involving three vehicles on April 29 in Kapa‘a.
Ito matches witness descriptions of the driver of a 1993 white Ford SUV that struck a northbound Toyota pickup when making a left turn from Kipuni Way onto Kuhio Highway at about 3:40 p.m. The collision caused the pickup to then collide with a Nissan sedan.
Two passengers of the Nissan sedan were treated at the scene and released. Both the Nissan and the Toyota pickup sustained moderate damage.
