Kapa‘a’s KP Lounge is famous for its multifarious selection of drinks, thanks to the creativity of the staff.
Funny guy Joe Potchia grew up on the East Coast in a small Delaware town. It was from his childhood escapades at Dairy Queen, gobbling Blizzards, that he got the inspiration to create “Jojo’s Float.”
Joe’s creation is the grown-up cousin of the root beer float. It’s a milkshake sterilized (kids: stay away) with alcohol, peppered with oreos and floated over Coca-Cola.
Joe moved here four years ago. He occasionally takes the stage doing standup comedy, usually right before his good friend musician Jeff Caldwell fires up the crowd with his wild guitar.
Joe said he’s good with people, but it seems like he’s good at losing people.
Two weeks into a backpacking trip around Europe, a misjudgment in train schedules in Italy got Joe and his friend separated. Without a way of communicating with each other, both went their own ways. They ended up reuniting two weeks later in Amsterdam, Holland two days before coming home.
KP Lounge is open every day from 11 a.m. to midnight. Food service goes until 11:30 p.m.
1 oz white rum
1 oz Lahaina dark rum
Coca-Cola
Vanilla ice cream
Oreo cookies
Milk
Cherry
Funny side up
Prepare the float part of the drink first, mixing the ice cream, milk and alcohol together. Once it’s all blended and done, throw inthe oreos for a brief moment, making sure there’ll be crunchinessleft in the shake. Gently float the shake onto the Coca-Cola, topwith whipped cream and a cherry. Now that you’ve got the coke, thecherry and the shake, you’re ready to make fun of everybodyelse.
