Koke‘e State Park is full of wonder. Where else can you witness rare Hawaiian birds in their native environment?
Native plants abound and restoration efforts for these rare plants and the birds that are supported by them are evident throughout the park. In fact, there is no place that serves as a better natural outdoor classroom for children.
This year, Koke‘e State Park is the setting for Forest Akamai Camp, offered by the Storybook Theatre of Hawai‘i, a news release states.
The camp will be held at Koke‘e Discovery Center from June 22 to June 26. The program will guide children on hiking adventures where they will view flowering ohia trees, native ferns, and abundant wildlife while discovering their own connection to nature, the release states. The program includes an in-depth study of Hawaiian Forest Birds and is staffed by professional educators, guest scientists and cultural resource experts.
By day, children will enjoy expressive art projects and make new friends, the release states. At night, they will experience fireside storytelling and benefit from discussions on Hawaiian Forest Bird lore and personal sovereignty. Forest Akamai Camp is sure to be a memorable experience for any child that attends.
