King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School fifth-graders Athena Alexander, Audrey Catbagan and Sydney Agudong are not looking forward to the end of school because they are each going to part when school ends.
Karen Liu, the school principal, said that’s because King Kaumuali‘i School is in one of those districts where half of the student population goes to Kapa‘a (Athena is heading to Kapa‘a Middle School) and the other half is in Lihu‘e (Audrey heading to Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School and Sydney going to Island School).
But that didn’t bother the school’s Student Council students who were selling hard ice (where else but in Hawai‘i?) and chips to try and help raise funds to sponsor a school-wide carnival May 20 (that’s the same day as high school graduation).
Kudos to Marnie Crawford, Karen Liu and the King Kaumuali‘i PTSA for hosting its “Go Green” Earth Day event which had the first 100 visitors getting a free Walmart recyclable shopping bag along with prizes being offered by the vendors.
