Waimea High School boys tennis gave Island School a strong challenge, but the Menehune ended splitting its series at the Hanapepe tennis courts, Saturday.
The Boys second doubles team of Andrew Dutton and John Villanueva was the only victory marked by Waimea as Island School took the boys series, 4-1.
On the girls court, Meghan Perius and Madison Duarted teamed to claim the only Island School victory in the Girls first doubles as Waimea claimed the girls’ series, 4-1.
The Perius/Duarte duo challenged the Menehue pair of Rachel Umetsu and Shantel Rita to prevail, 6-4, 6-2 in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation tennis season.
Menehune Lani-Rae Green, playing in the Girls first singles court, took her match against April Oo, 6-0, 6-2, and Brittney Barreira controlled the Girls second singles court with a 6-0, 6-2 showing over Island School’s Haley Uliana.
Dessa Rentrop and Annalissa Hartsell of Waimea took control of the Girls second doubles court with a 6-3, 6-1 win over the Island School duo of Lauren Claypoole and Stephanie Steuri.
On the Girls third doubles court, Mary Yasay teamed up with fellow Menehune Brittney Palencia to get past the Island School pair of Tessa Mason and Alyssa Medd, 6-4, 6-3.
Island School held off Menehune challenges in the Boys singles courts as Sam Dunham defeated Waimea’s Joshua Quinlan, 6-1, 6-1, and Ryan Perez got past Joshua Ponting in three, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
Jeremy Randolph-Falgg teamed up with Voyager Logan Domingo to best the Waimea pair of Kaleo Hauata and Bradley Cano, 6-2, 6-0 in the Boys first doubles court.
Dutton and Villanueva, playing on the Boys second doubles team, edged out Island School’s team of Dylan Morrison-Fogel and Ben Steuri, 7-5, 6-4.
Excitement ruled the Boys third doubles court as the Island school team of Aidan Dungan and Garret Beyer outlasted the Waimea pair of John Gawaran and Bryle Rivera, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(5).
Island School will travel to the Kaua‘i Lagoons court to take on Kaua‘i High School, Saturday starting at 9 a.m., according to Kaua‘i High School coach Joy Kukino in an email.
Waimea High School will be at the Kapa‘a High School tennis courts, Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
