To all you ink-stained wretches out there: It’s time to buy a new pen and pad and create because 2011 is the year of Women In Theatre’s third biannual Ten Minute Play Festival.
The festival will be held at Kaua‘i Community College Aug. 5, 6 and 7. The submission deadline for manuscripts is April 1, but people can send their scripts to romeycurtis@aol.com any time before then.
The plays will be read by four members of the WIT Board, plus three playwrights. Only the producer will know the authorship of each play at the time of adjudication, and she will not participate in the judging. At the festival there will be a “Judges’ Choice” award, beside winners in the Best Drama and Best Comedy categories, chosen by the audience.
The results will be shared with all the authors and the selected plays will be announced by the end of April. Casting of actors will take place in May, and WIT is offering a free workshop for directors and actors involved in The Shorts.
Rehearsals for the individual plays will run through June. In July they will be viewed by the Board, to give time for any adjustments if they are needed before the actual festival.
The criteria for scripts entered in the festival will be posted on the WIT website, womenintheatre.org, and there will also be a calendar of events posted there.
