The National Tropical Botanical Garden announces its second Botanical Illustration Workshop on Kaua‘i from Feb. 24 to March 6. The deadline to register is Feb. 15. The workshop will be led by botanical illustrators Wendy Hollender, an author and instructor at the New York Botanical Garden, and Alice Tangerini, a veteran staff illustrator with the Smithsonian Institution’s Department of Botany.
Participants will have the opportunity to study the fundamentals of botanical drawing using graphite pencil, colored pencil, watercolor pencil, and pen and brush with ink as they learn to better observe plants and execute their vision on paper. Previous drawing experience is an asset but not required. The workshop begins February 24, running through March 6 and includes eight class days at Garden Headquarters in Kalaheo with two additional days allotted for group field trips. The fee for the workshop is $860 which includes lunch on instruction days. To register by e-mail, contact jroberts@ntbg.org or call 332-7324, ext. 207.
