Entries for “Beauty Through the Eyes of Our Children” are being accepted for the 24th annual Mokichi Okada Association Museum of Art Children’s Painting exhibition.
Submissions for the open themed contest are available to children and must be turned in to their schools no later than Feb. 25.
The open theme allows student artists to express themselves in the area about positive island-style living, friends, family, community, sports pasttimes, play times, pets and more, states a MOA release.
Artwork must be done on 12- by 18-inch paper, not exceeding 15-by-21 inches.
Canvas or material thicker than posterboard will not be accepted for this exhibit. Additionally, no matted or framed works will be accepted.
Also, the use of cartoon or Manga characters will be disqualified along with photography.
Watercolor, tempra, acrylic, craypas, or oil pastels, crayons, colored pencils, chalk pastels which have been fixed, colored ink are acceptable media for the exhibit.
Each piece must be clearly labelled on the back of the artwork with the title, name of the artist, school, grade level and artist’s phone number.
The Kaua‘i selections will be on display at the Kamali‘i Children of Culture and Arts Gallery located in the lobby of the Pi‘ikoi Building March 21-26 with an awards ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m., March 26.
Selected pieces will advance for display at the Hawai‘i State Exhibition at the Honolulu Academy of Arts Linekona Art Center.
Pieces receiving “Best in Show” awards will be forwarded to Japan for entrance into the international competition.
The exhibit is being sponsored by the MOA Museum of Art, Atami, Japan, MOA Hawai‘i, Japan-Brazil Art League, the Kaua‘i Academy of Creative Arts, the County of Kaua‘i, Office of the Mayor and Parks and Recreation Department.
