Michael Kaneko, Edmar Yago, Arick Yasay and Melvin Tinzon led a balanced offense that gave Ho‘ouila a 38-34 edge over Papalina-White, Monday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Kaneko and Yago both finished with eight points while Yasay and Tinzon ended the night at seven points apiece in the county’s 13 and Under Boys winter league basketball.
That was one of three games played in Kalaheo. Papalina-Blue came back to redeem the loss of its White team with a 69-17 showing over Team Lihu‘e, and Team Central 1 ended the night with a 52-20 romp over Team Central 2.
Nate Herbig finished with a game-high 17 points for Papalina-White, but the effort fell short. Joseph Cumlat and Daniel Fee added six and five points, respectively, in the effort against Ho‘ouila.
Kalawai‘a Judd topped the Papalina-Blue win with 22 points, followed by Chavis Garma adding 20 points. Charlie Rabago ended with 10 points to round out the double-digit scoring by the Blue team.
Kelvin Ganotisi topped Team Lihu‘e’s effort with 15 points, followed by Branden Remigio adding a pair.
Mark Lacierna and Micah Layosa headed the Team Central 1 offense with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Tyler Fernandez finished the night with 10 points.
Lester Acojido topped the Team Central 2 effort with eight points and Arnolfo Balaan ended the night with four marks.
The Boys 13 and Under league, 11 teams strong, next takes the court at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, Thursday with three games on tap.
West Kaua‘i Hornets take on the Flyin’ Hawaiians from Kilauea starting at 6 p.m. followed by Westside Basketball Boys tangling with Hanakila, another North Shore squad, starting at 7 p.m. Team Central 2 rounds out the night against Papalina-Blue starting at 8 p.m.
Two Girls 13 and Under games are on tap, Wednesday when Team Lihu‘e takes on the Kaua‘i Ballers starting at 6 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center. The Westside Basketball Girls tangle with the Kamikaze starting at 7 p.m.
