Justin Duque
Justin Larry Ikaika Duque of Hanama‘ulu died Jan. 2, 2011, at age 27. Born in Lihu‘e on Oct. 20, 1983, he was a landscaper.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kaimana Larry Dias-Duque; paternal grandmother, Mary Rose Duque; maternal grandfather, Lono K.M. Fu; nephew, Preston L. Duque.
He is survived by his parents, Larry Duque (Sharon Taboniar) of Hanama‘ulu, Lona Fu Duque (Harry “Blue” Brown) of California; brother, Preston Duque (Jessi Roberts) of Hanama‘ulu; sisters, Larae (Chris) Hughes of Missouri, Jasmine (Kaholo) Duque-Troy of the Big Island; maternal grandmother, Frances Fu of Anahola; hanai mom, Barbara Wilhauck; four nieces; four nephews; numerous aunties, uncles, cousins and special friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Aloha Church with visitation at 8 a.m. and services beginning at 10 a.m. A scattering of his ashes will be held at a later date.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Duque family with arrangements.
Daniel Locey
Daniel L. Locey, 59, died Dec. 22, 2010. Born Dec. 5, 1951, in Montebello, Calif., he was an RME with CWD Construction.
He was preceded in death by mother Jane Locey and father Daryl Locey.
He is survived by his daughters, Maile and Delphi Locey of Seattle, Wash.; brother, David (Elke); four nieces of California; sister, Linda (George) Corral; three nephews of LaGrange, Ky.; and his loving companion, Helen Mattingly of Lihu‘e.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, Jan. 29, from noon until sunset, with a potluck under the makani trees fronting the Black Sands Apts. in Waimea, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i. Casual attire suggested.
Mildred Hiramoto
Mildred Midori “Kamei” Hiramoto of ‘Oma‘o died Jan. 15, 2011, at age 83. Born on Kaua‘i, she was a secretary for Kaua‘i Commercial Company and became the executive secretary to Mayor Francis M. F. Ching. Before retiring she was the court clerk and secretary to Judges Alfred Laureta, Norito Kawakami, Kei Hirano and George Masuoka in the 5th Circuit Court.
She was preceded in death by husband Charles I. Hiramoto.
She is survived by mother Florence Kamei; sister Janet (Nobuyuki) Watanabe; children Janis Cox, Lynn (Patrick Murphy) Douthit, Charles (Maureen) Hiramoto, Lane Hiramoto, Rae (Orlando Valvieja) Hiramoto; grandchildren Tiana (Will) Litvin, Shannon (Steven Ashcraft) Hiramoto, Calen Hiramoto; and great-grandchildren Ella and Benjamin Litvin.
Private services will be held to celebrate her life. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
Clara Jardin
Clara Gomes Jardin of Kalaheo died at home on Jan. 20, 2011, at age 91. She was born on Kaua‘i on May 3, 1919.
She was preceded in death by husband Albert Jardin.
She is survived by daughters Alberta (Peter) Kali Sr., Judy (Leon) Gonsalves Sr.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters Flora Duarte, Alice Palmeira, Miriam Rita; numerous nieces cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with family on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Holy Cross Church from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Church Cemetery.

Cynthia J. Aronica of Kalaheo died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 23, 2011, at age 67. Born on Sept. 16, 1943 in Illinois, she was a teacher.
She is survived by twin sons James (Veronica Hamm) Aronica, Mike Aronica; and mother Ruth Clark.
Friends may visit with family on Friday, Jan. 28, at Kalaheo Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints at 3 p.m.; services to be celebrated at 4 p.m. and burial to follow at Lihu‘e Cemetery.

Nicole Thomas
Nicole Charmaine Thomas of Kapa‘a died Jan. 19, 2011, on O‘ahu, at age 42. Born in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, on Sept. 11, 1968, she was a teacher and care giver; she loved sharing her mana‘o with others; she was always creating something beautiful with her hands; she was an amazing mother, daughter, sister, aunty, and friend; she shared so many memories with so many people; her legacy will live on in all of us.
She was preceded in death by son Tanner; grandparents Alex and Frances Thomas, Leon Castillo, and Doris Uyeda.
She is survived by fiancé Shawn Sanchez; daughters Tierny and Teagan Waialeale; mother Connie (Steve) Melanson; father Stephen (Sheilah) Thomas; brother Brandon Thomas (Leo Hasegawa); sister Dawn (Kenneth) Cummings; nieces Tara, Tori, Kawana, Jennee, Tyli, Kyary, Kaliyah, Brooklyn; nephews Keona, Kahinu, Kamuela, Tristin; numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, and extended family; Ojiichan Hideo and Obachan Michie Sasaki.
A celebration of life will be on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Lydgate South Beach Park (first turn off, behind soccer field park). Visitation is at 9 a.m. and services begin at 10 a.m. Fellowship with the family and friends to follow the services.

Sebastian “Baby Bash” James Balderas of Lihu‘e died on Jan. 22, 2011, at 9 nine months of age. He was born in Honolulu on April 10, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Cornelio Cariaga.
He is survived by his parents, Abraham and Moneli Balderas of Lihu‘e; paternal grandparents, Trinidad and Abraham Balderas Sr., of Washington; maternal grandmother, Monica Cariaga of Lihu‘e; numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing at 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.

Tsuneko Yamase
Tsuneko Yamase of Waimea died Jan. 24, 2011, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at age 89. Born on May 26, 1921, in Waimea, Kaua‘i, she was a retired janitress with Waimea Dispensary.
She is survived by sons Mel Yamase (Verna) of Lihu‘e, Brian Yamase (Colleen) of ‘Ele‘ele, Edd Yamase and Todd Yamase, both of Waimea; daughters Jennifer (Crispin) Arakaki of Maui, Tammie (William) Quinlan of Kaua‘i and Krissy (Stephen) Baird of Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Waimea Honpa Hongwanji; service officiated by Rev. Kozo Hashimoto will begin at 3 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted

Mabel Medina
Mabel Yasuko Yamase Medina of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 20, 2011, at age 82. Born on July 28, 1928, in Wailua, she retired as a bus aide for Wilcox School.
She is survived by sons Steven (Mieko) Yamase, Milton (Darlene) Yamase; daughter Laurie (Bruce) Sloan; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Feb. 4, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa at 9:30 a.m. with celebration of life at 10 a.m.
