Hats off to Debbie Bail (wasn’t it great there was no tennis?) and the Kaua‘i All-Girls Rodeo Association on a great year opener, Sunday at the CJM Country Stables.
Thirty-nine riders in the 3D Barrels is a great start, and even Tammy Pu‘u was able to get off to participate.
Hallie Cristobal had a ‘No Contact’ order from her doctor so couldn’t play soccer, but rodeo is not a contact sport and Hallie lost little time setting the pace on Angel.
She was followed two horses later on Summer Malina who rode Maka, a horse who is blind in one eye. Sherri Carveiro does a great job on the microphone and you pick up all the good stuff like Kayla Lazaro who was enjoying her first rodeo, and Karen Akita (she’s the mom of Sandra, last year’s top cowgirl) going six-for-six as a heeler in the Dally Team Roping.
Sandra got to carry the American flag in the Grand Entry and the 2010 Reserve Cowgirl Britni Ludington-Braun got to do the Hawaiian flag followed by the Hawai‘i Rodeo queen Taylor Ludington.
A round of applause to header Rhonda Kaui who took a tumble on her first steer during the Dally Team Roping, but recovered to finish the round.
Check out the happenings next on Feb. 20. It’s free!
