“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.’
… Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.” — Quotes by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
It was on August 28, 1963 that Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous “I Have A Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. Thousands of people of all races crowded the Nation’s capital on that day to march for jobs, freedom, peace and justice. It was that historic speech that helped draw millions more supporters to back the Civil Rights movement and speak out for real change in America and equal rights for all people. King’s legacy lives on as people all over the world remember what he stood for.
The Interfaith Roundtable of Kaua‘i hosted the celebration on the birthday of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Kukui Grove Center with music, dancing, prayers and blessings from various faiths and the sharing of peaceful ideas.
The atmosphere was joyous as people from all over Kaua‘i socialized and enjoyed the beautiful event that was graciously offered free of charge.
Many non-profit organizations had booths set up promoting service, peace and non-violence.
