Ethel K. Silva
Ethel K. Silva of Kalaheo, Kaua‘i, peacefully passed away at the Hale Kupuna Heritage Home on Jan. 11, 2011, at the age of 94. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Silva.
She is survived by her sons Richard W. (Laurena”Tito”) Silva of Kalaheo and Leonard H. Yoza of Makakilo; stepsons John (Irene) Silva of Mililani, Walter (Jasmine) Silva of Kailua-Kona, Franklin (Bernice) Silva of Pakala and Antone Roy Silva of Kailua-Kona; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother George Oshiro of Makakilo; and sister Gladys Higa of Pearl City,
Friends may visit with the family from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel. Memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Family requests casual attire.
A celebration of life will be held at The Garden Island Mortuary immediately following the memorial services. All are welcome to join the family and friends to celebrate a life that has touched many and will never be forgotten.
David Dias Sr.
David Dias Sr. of Hanama‘ulu, Kaua‘i died Jan. 4, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 79. Born on May 12, 1931, in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, he was a crane operator for A&B Properties.
He was preceded in death by sons Robin and Nolan Dias, and grandchildren Malani and Tyson Dias.
He is survived by wife Dolores Dias; sons David Dias Jr., Wendell Dias, Samuel (Melissa) Dias; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Celebration of life will be on Saturday, Jan. 22, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation at 8 a.m. and memorial service at 10 a.m.

William Brede
William ‘Bully’ Andrew Brede III, of Anahola, Kaua‘i died Jan. 7, 2011, at Samuel Mahelona Hospital at age 53. Born in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i on Aug. 31, 1957, he was an irrigator for Lihu‘e Plantation for 27 years.
He was preceded in death by mother Juliette N. Brede and brother Gilmath L. Brede.
He is survived by daughters Gardenia (Kalani Inoue) Brede of O‘ahu, Glory and Gladys Brede of O‘ahu; sons Ryan ‘Hoku’ Palacio of Kaua‘i, William ‘Kalani’ Brede of O‘ahu; father William (Helen) Brede Jr. of Kaua‘i; brother Shane (Susan) Brede of Kaua‘i; sisters Deborah Brede of Kaua‘i, Julieann ‘Tweety’ (Gilbert Sr.) Balai of Kaua‘i; step-sisters Helen (Robert) Azevedo of O‘ahu, MaryAlice ‘Momi’ (Francis) Furtado of Kaua‘i, LaVerne (Mark Nobriga) Sa of Kaua‘i, Leona (Robert)McDermott of Kaua‘i; two grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles and cousins.
Services to be held on Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-Second Ward, Kapa‘a. Visitation at 9 a.m., service to be held at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Lihu‘e Public Cemetery. Family suggests casual attire.

Joseph Aiji Tokita
Joseph Aiji Tokita of Lihu‘e died peacefully at his home on Jan. 3, 2011 at the age of 100.
Born on Feb. 7, 1910 in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, he retired as the Hanapepe Branch Manager of the Bank of Hawai‘i after 43 years of service; and was active in the East Kaua‘i Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn Moriwaki Tokita; parents Tetsushiro & Tsuta Tokita; eight brothers and two sisters.
He leaves behind a sole surviving brother Turk Tokita; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Services were private.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Masao Nishioka
Masao “Mac” Nishioka of Hanama‘ulu died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on January 10, 2011 at the age of 85. He was born on September 16, 1925 and retired from Lihu‘e Sugar Plantation as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
He is survived by his loving niece and caregiver, Laura Nishioka of Hanama‘ulu; two sister-in-laws, Joyce Nishioka of O‘ahu, Toshie Nishioka of Kaua‘i and many other loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Lihu‘e Hongwanji Mission with visitation from 9 a.m. and services at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Nishioka family with arrangements.
Andrew Takata
Andrew Mitsuto Takata died on Jan. 12, 2011 at Kuakini Medical Center at the age of 79. He was born in Kealia, Kaua‘i, and was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
He is survived by his spouse; Alice Sachi Takata, sons; Scott H. Takata (Pamela) of Wilmington, Delaware and Matt H. Takata (Rina) of Lihu‘e, brother; Daniel T. Takata (Susie) of Honolulu, sister; Kiyoko Murashige (Coney) of Lihu‘e and 5 grandchildren.
Services will be at Hosoi Garden Mortuary Tuesday, January 25, 2011 beginning with visitation at 5 p.m. with service at 6 p.m. Aloha attire, no flowers please.
