At a “Meet the Playwrights” party 6 p.m. Saturday, Kaua‘i Community Players will host two of Dramatist Play Service’s most produced playwrights in the country, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten.
Co-writing with a third author, Jessie Jones, Hope and Wooten are the authors of KCP’s next play, “Dearly Beloved,” set in Fayro, Texas. “Dearly Beloved” is a comedy directed by Jo Grande, which opens in February at the Puhi Warehouse Theatre.
The public is invited to become members of KCP and attend the party honoring the playwrights and featuring entertainment by Arnold Meister, Mary McDermott, the Swing Sisters and scenes from “Dearly Beloved” plus scenes from KCP’s May production “Laughter on the 23rd Floor” by Neil Simon, to be directed by Meister.
Jones, Hope and Wooten plays have been viewed by a million people across the country, according to their website.
Jones co-authored “Dearly Departed” and the feature film adaptation “Kingdom Come” released by Fox Searchlight Films.
Hope has written television episodes for Warner Brother and Walt Disney Studios. He has varied experience as a casting director for theater and television.
Jamie Wooten won the Writers Guild of America award and spent many seasons as writer-producer for “The Golden Girls.” He has written or produced nearly 400 episodes for network television.
The January 15 event will be hosted by Grande and her husband, KCP president Wil Welsh, at their Kapa‘a home. Reservations are essential as seating is limited.
