LIHU‘E — Twenty Kaua‘i piano students ll be playing in the Hawai‘i Music Teachers Association Pianomania 2010, Sunday, at the Blaisdell Center on O‘ahu.
The students, ranging in age from 12 to 17, were selected from five different schools on the island, said Lois Ricciardi, one of three instructors working with the students.
“These are the more advanced students of piano,” she said. “They will be playing with students from all over the state.”
The students were in formal attire Saturday, working through arrangements with Ricciardi, Virginia Shepherd and Joyce Anglemyer in preparation for next weekend.
Pianomania 2010 is a 10-grand piano extravaganza featuring more than 350 students from O‘ahu and Kaua‘i, states the HMTA website.
Guest conductors for the event include Henry Miyamura, Grant Okamura and Tom Bingham.
The event is the final facet of the HMTA 43rd Annual State Convention with the theme of “A Festival of Music.” The convention started on Oct. 30 with the HMTA Junior Artist Piano and String Competitions and will close with Pianomania 2010.
“This is a showcase of the students’ talents and achievements,” Ricciardi said. “A lot of these students have been at Pianomania before, and Kaua‘i students have always been described as ‘top notch.’”
Students making the trip to Pianomania 2010 include: Michelle Galano, Michaela Fitzgerald, Nicole Malapit, Tori Kobayashi, Nicole Isoda, Kirsten Malapit, Iwana Wu, Jamielyn Dela Cruz, Daniel Welch, Trysten Caberto, Bryan Andres, Kevin Jian, Taylor Welch, Nathan Wong, Kyle Balisacan, Justin Langstad, Stuart Beeksma and Kalani Murakami.
