LIHU‘E — Kapa‘a High School students won the first prize and $2,000 in a video contest on safe teen driving, a press release states.
Given the prevalence of teen car crashes in October, beginning in 2007, State Farm and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia worked with the U.S. Congress to designate the third week of October as National Teen Driver Safety Week.
High-school students across Hawai‘i created videos promoting safe teen driving to focus attention on this national problem.
Students chose the issue of texting while driving as the focus for all three winning videos, including the winning video, “Intexticated.” State Farm gave the cash awards:
• $ 1,000 to Kamehameha Schools Big Island campus for “Football and Texting,” second place;
• $ 500 to third-place winner St. Louis High School, for “If Not You, Then Who?”
