LIHU‘E — It was hard to tell who was more excited on Wednesday at the Kaua‘i Government Employees Federal Credit Union — the credit union’s staff, or the 150 visiting first grade students from the Elsie Wilcox Elementary School.
Lisa Murphy, marketing specialist for KGEFCU, said the visit was one day of the International Credit Union Week celebration taking place this week, and the visit ties in with Career Week being celebrated by schools statewide.
“On Friday, I’ll be speaking to a marketing class at Kaua‘i High School and Tom Vallatini will be speaking with one of the Business classes on career opportunities,” Murphy said. “Today’s visit by the first grade class is also part of the Career Week observance.”
Murphy said the KGEFCU has been observing the week with a variety of activities for the public and its members.
On Monday, credit unions were greeted with “Meet the BOD” and “Guess Who?” baby picture contest featuring some of the credit unions’ staff baby pictures.
If a friend accompanied a member to the credit union on Tuesday, they received a special gift as part of “Bring A Friend Day,” and about 150 first grade students were given a tour of the facility, Wednesday.
Mia Matsunaga, Ashlyn Nii, Kailash, Maiya E., Alena Bernardo, and Valor Mexia were announced as winners of a special coloring contest by the students, Murphy saying she dropped off the posters at the school and picked them up earlier for judging.
Additionally, the young guests were treated to a goodie bag with the Halloween theme, fruit punch, and teachers accompanying the students also received an appropriate goodie bag.
Thursday is “Credit Union Celebration,” coinciding with International Credit Union Day where KGEFCU members signing up for Bill Pay and E-Statements can be entered in a $250 drawing.
The week wraps up with “Aloha Friday Meet the CEO” where teachers and eligible public high school seniors can learn about career opportunities, the event coinciding with Murphy’s and Vallatini’s visit to Kaua‘i High School.
