Old Kapa‘a town stayed up late last week for Art Night, held the first Saturday of each month from 5 to 9 p.m. Artists of all kinds were out, including photographers, chefs, fire dancers and musicians. The one-way alley behind Island Hemp & Cotton was filled with people, spilling out and around Alley Cat Art, celebrating an artist opening for Hugh Russell. The six-piece band Malama Pono All Stars played into the night — with instruments like a saw — and fire dance troupe Kalalea Fire lit up the night.
More performers Erin Mitchell and Lorraine Skalla also fire danced outside the atelier down the street, and freelance photographer Aaron Feinberg, who has created a calendar for community radio station KKCR’s fundraising drive this fall, had his artwork on display. Co-chefs Danielle Gumbert and Josh Thompson, who will be giving cooking classes on-island soon, presented their fresh-baked pizzas.
