Local author WIlliam Miller celebrates the fifth anniversary of his book “The Gospel According to Sam: Animal Stories for the Soul,” with a special reception and reading. The author will share insights from Sam, his faithful Airedale terrier, who survived a house fire and became a local celebrity, and will also read a story from the book. Eagle Song Dancers

Kaua‘i Pow Wow Council presents the Eagle Song Dancers, a coastal people from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, who will share songs and dances using hand-crafted drums and other instruments. The Friends of Lihu‘e Library are hosting a book sale featuring mysteries, thrillers, romances, classics, history, biography, health, cookbooks, literature, coffee-table books, books on Hawai‘i and the Pacific, videos, DVDs, CDs and more. All proceeds from the fundraising sale go to support the programs and services of Lihu‘e Public Library, such as the summer reading programs.

All creatures great and small will be blessed at the Annual All Angels Animal Blessing. The service will begin promptly at 4 p.m. in the church, with special music by Henry Adam Curtis and the All Angels Children’s Choir. The service will include readings related to the day, special prayers for those who care for animals and prayers for departed animals. Each animal will also receive an individual blessing. The service will be followed with a hot-dog reception, including cold beverages. There will be live music on the lanai and a petting zoo for children. All animals will receive a blessing certificate. The event is free and open to the public. All donations will go to the Kaua‘i Humane Society. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket for the reception and live music on the lawn afterwards.
