LIHU‘E — The University of Hawai‘i women’s golf team opened play at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, Friday, at the University of New Mexico Championship Course. The Rainbow Wahine finished the day in 17th place with a two-round score of 646 (328-318).
Sophomore Brigitte Baker leads UH at 7-over par (79-74=153). After carding a 79 in the first round, Baker shot an impressive 1-over in the second round to move up 23 places. She heads into the final day tied for 37th.
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine are newcomers Charlee Kapiioho (80-80=160/T68th) and Madeleine Ystrom (83-80=163/T76th), with sophomore Ka‘ili Britos (86-84=170/T89th) and senior Brittany Bomar (86-87=173/92nd) rounding out the field.
Team leader through both rounds was No. 24 Ohio State, carding a three-over, 587 (292-295). The Buckeyes go into the final round with a four-shot lead over San Diego State. Individually, Therese Koelbaek of UNLV leads after posting two rounds of 70 (-6).
The tournament concludes today with the third and final round.
