HONOLULU — The state Department of Land and Natural Resources still has permits available for a control hunt for feral goats and pigs that starts today in Na Pali Coast State Park, a DLNR news release states.
Permits are still available for hunters with firearms (no dogs) who may hunt daily today through Oct. 23 in portions of Hunting Unit G on the North Shore, the release says.
Permits have already been allotted to a limited number of hunter groups with dogs on two weekends: Sept. 17-19 and Oct. 15-17. Other hunters with dogs that are interested in future hunts may pick up an application at the Kaua‘i DOFAW office to be put on a list for future dates.
The areas open to hunting will be between Ho‘olulu Valley (3.5 miles) to Kalalau Valley (11 miles). The special control hunt is an ongoing effort to reduce ungulate numbers in Na Pali Coast State Park for watershed protection purposes, the release states.
Na Pali Coast State Park will be closed through October for repairs and maintenance. Hunting during the above dates in the designated areas will be permitted during the park closure period.
Interested hunters may call the Kaua‘i DOFAW office at 274-3433 to sign up for the hunt and obtain detailed information.
