LIHU‘E — The Hawai‘i State Junior Golf Association will conduct the 2010 Mixed Team Championship at Kaua‘i Lagoons Golf Club this Saturday and Sunday. The first tee time on Saturday is 11 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Sunday.
The Mixed Team Championship consists of two-person teams with one boy and one girl from the 13–18 age divisions. The first round format is Four-Ball Stroke Play, followed by alternate shot format Foursome Stroke Play during round two.
The challenging Kaua‘i Lagoons will play 6,142 yards for the Girls 13-18 and 6,633 yards for the Boys 13-18. The 2009 champions were the team of Kelli Oride and Cory Kozuma.
Kelli will defend her title with a different partner this year; she will team with Pono Tokioka also from Lihu‘e.
Other Kaua‘i competitors will be Jacob Dysinger (Kapa‘a), Hi‘ilani Wailana Rosa-Alana (Lihu‘e), Daniel C. Miller II (Kilauea), Kenji Miyata (Kapa‘a), Daeza Tomas (Lihu‘e), Bryden Keanu Tom Salvador (Kilauea), Naea Oda (Kapa‘a), Keegan Loo (Lihu‘e), Braeden Robley (Lihu‘e), Taylor Viquelia (Koloa) and Michael A. Miller (Kilauea).
The Mixed Team Championship is designed to help prepare our Hawai‘i Team members who compete in a similar Ryder Cup format event against the top junior golfers from Japan later this year.
The fourth annual Asia Pacific Junior Cup (former USA Hawai‘i-Japan Junior Cup) is being played Nov. 11-14 at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course on the Big Island.
