David Bukoski had a front row seat for the high-energy lunch Monday, when the Kyoto Tachibana band offered Kukui Grove Center shoppers a free lunchtime concert.
Art Umezu was due for a meeting with Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr., but had time to introduce the band to lunchtime shoppers. And since Art was there, so was Daphne Sanchez and Da Jam Room regulars who trooped alongside the marching band during its performance from Macy’s to the Center Stage area.
Darryl Miyasato came off campus to make sure everything went smoothly, and Clyde Kodani was hoping his two students would see him so he could have lunch with them.
Cheryl Fujimoto remembered her experience hosting Kyoto Tachibana students and came to enjoy the concert. Robert Tamura did one better — he bought 10 tickets so his whole family could enjoy the concert. And if it didn’t rain, more than 100 Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School students would’ve hiked to the mall for the performance.
If you missed the free Monday concert, tonight is the night — $3 admission for adults, students get in free. All proceeds benefit the Kaua‘i High School band booster program.
