LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i County Committee on the Status of Women is sponsoring an essay contest for female high-school students who live on Kaua‘i, states a county press release.
The theme is “Women who inspire you as a leader.”
The deadline to submit essays is Aug. 25.
Two winners will be selected to attend the International Women’s Leadership Conference, Sept. 21 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.
“We want to encourage all of our female high-school students to participate in the essay contest,” said Regina Carvalho, KCCSW chair.
“This will give them the opportunity to take a look at inspirational women and, hopefully, in turn, they’ll be motivated to make a difference in the lives of others in our community.”
Essays must be typed and not over 250 words.
Each essay will be judged on the following criteria: comprehension, conclusions, creativity, organization and writing.
Relatives of KCCSW members are not eligible to participate in the contest.
